The Santa Cruz Film Festival supports and promotes the love of the moving-image arts within the local Santa Cruz and Greater Monterey Bay Area. SCFF is an artist-driven, filmmaker-forward festival for original films world-wide. Through the production of an annual film festival, year-round events and educational programming, the Santa Cruz Film Festival engages the community in their appreciation of the moving-image medium—from short and experimental films, to narrative and documentary features. Since 2000, SCFF has screened over 2000 independent films, including scores of locally-produced works in front of tens of thousands of dedicated cinephiles.

For 13 years, we have worked to shift disempowering narratives and nurture a filmmaking ecosystem in Watsonville and our Monterey Bay region. In 2012, Watsonville-based filmmakers, educators, and activists came together to present empowering narratives about our community.

Our locations in Monterey County have been sought out by directors and cinematographers since 1897, when a cameraman working for Thomas Edison shot the pounding Monterey surf and filmed carriages arriving at the historic Hotel Del Monte. Filmmakers from Edward Weston to Ansel Adams to Clint Eastwood have flocked here ever since, seeking the perfect backdrops for their shots.

The Carmel International Film Festival (CIFFest) is where creativity meets community on California’s iconic coast. Originally established in 1929 and reimagined for today’s audiences, CIFFest has become a premier destination for filmmakers, industry leaders, and film lovers. Held in the artistic haven of Carmel-by-the-Sea, the festival celebrates bold storytelling and visionary talent through powerful screenings, intimate panels, and unforgettable events. From red carpet moments to emerging voices, CIFFest is where the future of film comes to shine.
